Founded in 1976 with the goal of drawing the best talent and practices from around the world, SGU is the largest source of physicians licensed in the US - more than any other medical school in the world1.
As a student pursuing Biomedical Science or a related field, you might be considering a medical career in the US or UK. Eligible students can gain admission into the 4-Year Doctor of Medicine (MD) program with SGU, with the flexibility to start in Grenada, the Caribbean, this August, or in the UK starting this September.

About the MD Program
The first two years of the MD program are on-campus learning experiences called the basic sciences. During the final two years, you will have the chance to complete clinical rotations across US and UK healthcare systems at over 75 hospitals and health centres2.

In order to be certified to take USMLE Step 1, students are required to pass all basic sciences courses.
5 Average of 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024 residency placement rates. Residency placement rate is defined as the total number of international students/graduates (non-US or Canadian) who obtained a US residency divided by the total number of international students/graduates who applied to a US residency program in a given year as of April 2024.
6 Total results from the five academic years 2019-2023. First-time pass rate is defined as the number of international (non-US citizens/permanent residents and Canadian) students passing USMLE Step 2 CK on their first attempt divided by the total number of international (non-US citizens/permanent residents and Canadian) students taking USMLE Step 2 CK for the first time. USMLE Step 2 CK is typically taken upon completion of third-year core clinical rotations.

SGU Graduates
"SGU provided a comprehensive medical education that prepared me to be successful in the US healthcare system. During my clinical rotations in the US, I was provided hands-on experience and exposure to the American healthcare system. This made my transition to residency and practicing medicine in the US smoother.” - Dr. Julia Hweyryoung Cho, 4-Year Medicine Program, graduated in 2022.

“SGU was an excellent decision as they provided me the opportunity to study medicine, form lifelong relationships and connections with people from various countries worldwide, and ultimately match into my first-choice program in internal medicine.” - Dr. Ifeatu Egwuatu, 4-Year Medicine Program, graduated in 2023.

Preparing for a university visit is essential to maximise your time there. Some things you should do include:

  • Research the university and your favourite courses in advance.
  • Prepare a list of questions to ask.
  • Bring copies of your academic documents and any other relevant materials.
  • Dress appropriately and professionally.
  • Take notes during your visit to remember important details later.

Scholarship Support

Scholarships provide financial assistance to international students who may not have access to the same resources as domestic students. Tuition fees for international students are higher, and the expense of travelling the world to study at a UK university can offset the financial burden of studying abroad by providing vital financial support.

If you are looking for a scholarship, grant, or bursary to help fund your studies in the UK, the SI-UK team and selected UK universities can assist you with what you are eligible for.

Supporting Documents

When attending a UK university open day as an international student, you must bring along several supporting documents to ensure you have all the necessary information and materials. We recommend that you bring:

  • Academic Transcripts: Please provide copies of your high school transcripts and any previous academic qualifications, such as diplomas or certificates.
  • English Language Proficiency Certificate: If English is not your first language and you've taken an English proficiency test (such as IELTS or TOEFL), bring a copy of your test results.
  • Passport: Your valid passport or any other form of identification.
  • Visa Documents: If you already have a student visa or have applied for one, bring copies of relevant visa documents or confirmation of visa application.
  • Resume/CV: Please include a copy of your resume or curriculum vitae (CV) detailing your educational background, work experience, extracurricular activities, and any other relevant achievements.
  • Portfolio (if applicable): If you're applying for a creative or practical course that requires a portfolio (e.g., art, design, architecture), bring samples of your work or a portfolio showcasing your skills and creativity.
  • Reference Letters: Copies of reference letters from teachers, professors, or employers that support your application.

By bringing these documents, you'll be well-prepared to engage with university staff, gather relevant information, and make the most of your UK university open day experience as an international student.
