Oxford is an exceptionally fantastic university that welcomes some of the brightest minds worldwide to study there every year. There is no quota or target for international students, which means an entirely open competition for each place.
There is a single round of admissions each year for undergraduate study, and the UCAS deadline is 15th October. Oxford makes all offers for UG study by the middle of January each year. The university does not offer early admission or early decision.
UCAS Application for Oxford
1. Choose your course: Your first and foremost crucial step will be the choice of course that you desire to study at Oxford. While making this important decision, you have to bear in mind:
- Oxford requires its applicants to meet the course's specific qualification requirements. Academic requirement is A-levels or equivalent international qualifications. When making a UCAS application, you must submit evidence of English Language proficiency and an IELTS overall of 7.5 with 7.0 in each element for all the courses except mathematics and computing science. You will require an IELTS overall of 7.0 with 6.5 in each element for these subjects.
- Make sure how much the course will cost and how long are the terms
- Oxford is made up of more than 30 colleges. Check which college offers the course you are interested in. You will apply for one course only that you will study in-depth, and there are no major or minor subjects. The degrees are specialised.
2. Take admission tests: For most courses, applicants must take an admission test that allows Oxford to compare students using a single benchmark. Hence, confirm which test you must take and register yourself with a test centre. Get your test candidate entry number from the test centre as proof of entry. The tests are taken a few weeks after the UCAS deadline of 15 October.
3. Write your personal statement and organise your academic reference.
4. Submit UCAS form in early September.
Written Work
As part of the application, many courses demand written work demonstrating the analytical, reasoning, language and writing skills appropriate for your chosen degree. After considering your application, the college will contact you and instruct you how and when (maybe by the end of November) to submit your written work. Keep a copy for your reference.
Oxford Interview
Tutors review applications and shortlist candidates for interviews, which are usually held in early to mid-December. During these interviews, the tutor assesses your academic abilities and potential.
Decision
Your application's success or failure will be determined through UCAS Track in early January. This will be followed by direct communication from the concerned college. A particular college may make an offer, which can be conditional or unconditional.
Result
Your place is assured only if your application meets all the requirements. You will be able to see your confirmation on UCAS Track. In case of an open or conditional offer, you will need to follow and check UCAS Track and follow the process directly by UCAS.
Remember, the competition for each place at Oxford is intense. Even excellent results may not guarantee the place. The university does not participate in UCAS clearing, extra or adjustment.
