Student Support Services at the University of Liverpool
In-sessional English
The English Language Centre (ELC) provides an extensive, vibrant, and innovative programme of English language and study skills support for all students studying at the University of Liverpool who would like to improve their use of Academic English. Regular attendance can immensely help students maximise their academic potential.
- It is free of charge throughout the academic year and taught by highly experienced tutors
- Students can also take 1:1 academic consultations to receive feedback on their academic writing skills
- Sessions are available on writing, reading and critical thinking
Library Services
The university has 2 libraries, namely Harold Cohen and Sydney Jones. The library services are available to students throughout the year so that students can benefit the most from these. The following services are available:
- Access to physical and online resources, including books, journals, databases
- KnowHow Programme, which helps students to develop their study skills such as writing a literature review, planning a dissertation, and research methods
- Access to study spaces in the libraries
- Subject-specific support from the Academic Liaison Librarian
- Leisure collections which have a wide range of books, ebooks, audiobooks and curated playlists for leisure reading and wellbeing
Academic Supervisor/Tutor
Students can access office hours and regular individual tutorials with their tutors. Tutors are the first point of contact if any difficulties arise, can provide some pastoral support and, where required, guide and direct the students to the correct services.

- The university values your mental health and does not want you to feel alone. Students can seek assistance from confidential services, such as wellbeing guidance, counselling, workshops, self-help guides, helplines, and peer mentors.
- The university values inclusivity and offers a range of resources for students with disabilities. Some support services include examination arrangements, assistive technology, disability coaches, and library support.
- The International Advisory and Guidance Team can guide international students on visas and immigration. They also conduct workshops and presentations for students and can advise on work visa options in the UK, family visa options, standard visitor visas, etc.
- Financial guidance is also available from money coaches to support with hardships or managing costs.
