Founded in 1876, the University of Bristol combines a proud tradition of academic excellence with an independent and forward-thinking spirit.
Situated in the heart of Bristol, the University is one of the 24 members of the research-intensive Russell Group. It is one of the original ‘red brick’ universities - six institutions founded in the major industrial cities of England - and regularly ranks among the best in the UK in major league tables.
Bristol is one of the top 50 universities in the world (QS World Rankings 2018) with excellent graduate employment rates, and the completion rate is among the highest in the country (Times Good University Guide 2018). 87% of students are awarded either a First or 2:1 (who completed their first degree in 2015/16).
23,000 students currently study at the University from more than 120 countries, with many courses offering the option to study abroad for a year or a semester.
The University’s dedicated International Recruitment Team and Visa Advisers offer support to international students throughout the application process.
A meet and greet service is available for those arriving by plane, train or coach, and the International Welcome Lounge helps new students to settle in. International students are invited to attend a range of trips, tours and events in Bristol and further afield during the first term.
Undergraduate and taught postgraduate students are assigned a personal tutor, a named member of academic staff within their department, who can offer help and advice on both academic and personal matters. Personal tutors will meet their students regularly, either individually or in groups.
The University of Bristol is acknowledged by the government, research bodies, funding agencies and industry as a major centre for enterprise, innovation and research. Bristol is a top five UK institution for research intensity (joint fifth in THE analysis of REF 2014), with 83% of its research in the 2014 Research Excellence Framework rated as ‘world leading’ or ‘internationally excellent’.
The University of Bristol provides more than 5,000 residential places for undergraduate students and around 1,000 for postgraduates. University accommodation is guaranteed for all new first-year international students who apply by the deadline (subject to conditions).
There is both catered and self-catered accommodation in student houses and halls, some of which are arranged as flats. Some residences are in the city centre or Clifton, while others are situated at the edge of the city with acres of grounds. A regular bus service connects the halls with the University and other parts of the city, and students living in University accommodation travel free.
The University of Bristol is situated at the heart of the city and although it is not a campus university, the majority of its buildings are only a short walk from each other.
The city’s modern facilities are linked by a large public transport network. Bristol International Airport is easily accessible from the city, and London is just 90 minutes away by train.
Bristol has been named the best place to live in the UK (Sunday Times 2017) and there is much to do in a busy city with over 400,000 people. It is the region’s leading centre for business, culture and education, and many students enjoy the fantastic standard of living. There is also easy access to Wales, the Cotswolds and the popular holiday destinations of the south-west coastal region.
My consultant was very helpful and motivating. She helped me every step of the way, even when the deadline was so close. I feel I could not have done it without her. I'd highly recommend this service to any and all of my many friends interested.
