The University of Buckingham is the only independent university with a Royal Charter in the United Kingdom. It continues to operate an Oxbridge-style tutorial system and currently maintains a body of 2,000 students from 90 countries. The University has been leading the UK’s National Student survey for student satisfaction since 2006, with its English, Business, and Law Departments all ranking highly.
The main campus is in Buckingham, but foundation-level teaching also takes place in London and Oxford and the University was formed by a group of Oxford academics in 1973 inspired by the American college model. As an independent university, its staff-to-student ratio is currently 1:10.4 - much lower than many other institutions in the UK.
The University of Buckingham offers a unique ‘1+2’ option (a foundation programme and undergraduate degree with honours in just three years). This is made possible due to Buckingham’s innovative term structure, but does not lead to an increased workload for its students on a day-to-day basis.
The Foundation year can be taken on-campus in Buckingham, or in Central London or Oxford via the University’s partnership with the Oxford House College Group.
Pathway degrees available include:
The University of Buckingham provides several courses and classes to help students adjust to life in England. In addition, an English Language Centre is available for further tuition in academic, business and written English. With more than half of its students hailing from overseas, Buckingham has a proven track record of meeting the requirements of its international students.
Applications to the university can be made, free of charge, online through its website for all levels of study.
Buckingham’s students have long been praising the small class sizes and level of academic support offered by tutors. Other notable achievements in the league tables include:
The University of Buckingham guarantees accommodation for the first year of study. There are two main campus sites, all within easy walking distance of the main University buildings. They consist of fully furnished, modern, purpose-built halls with kitchen & bathroom facilities. Private accommodation in the town of Buckingham and surrounding villages is available, and the University’s Accommodation Office can provide assistance to students who opt to live off-campus.
Buckingham is in the heart of South-East England, a market town 50 miles from London and 20 miles from Oxford. It is proximate to a number of major international airports and local transport links are strong. It has grown rapidly over the past 40 years.
Cities such as Oxford and Milton Keynes are a 30 minute drive away. Silverstone, the home of the British Grand Prix, Stowe Landscape Gardens, Bicester Village Shopping Outlet and Towcester Racecourse are all within a short drive of Buckingham.
The Foundation year can be taken on-campus in Buckingham, or in Central London or Oxford via the University’s partnership with the Oxford House College Group.
My consultant was very helpful and motivating. She helped me every step of the way, even when the deadline was so close. I feel I could not have done it without her. I'd highly recommend this service to any and all of my many friends interested.
