The University of Cumbria was formed in 2007 and has campuses in Carlisle, Lancaster and Ambleside, all in the north-west of England around the scenic Lake District. The University also has specialist teacher-education centre in London, which is rated as one of the UK’s best by Ofsted.
The University of Cumbria prides itself on a ‘small and friendly’ image, with little over 8,000 students spread across its six campuses. As it was formed from several existing institutions, Cumbria has varied specialist faculties, ranging from agriculture and forestry to teacher training and English. The University of Cumbria also has a close relationship with the local creative arts community, which in turn gives art, design and media programmes a boost.
Although the University of Cumbria's roots are firmly placed in the North of England, they also provide outstanding teacher training and professional policing qualifications in London.
The University of Cumbria offers airport collection from either Manchester or Newcastle airport for new international students. Cumbria also offers a variety of courses for English language learners at all levels. This includes an International Foundation Programme, pre-sessional programmes, short courses, and the MA TESOL.
There are halls of residence at the London, Lancaster, Ambleside and Carlisle campuses, with almost 1,100 rooms available in total. To facilitate studies, internet access is available from every bedroom and most students have their own study bedroom (some rooms are twins), while the kitchen, lounge and bathroom is shared. Many are en-suite and a member of the residential team is on hand to help answer your questions once on campus.
Private rented accommodation can be found near all the campuses and the Accommodation Office publish a yearly handbook to assist in looking for rented accommodation.
The main campuses in Carlisle, Ambleside and Lancaster that make up the University of Cumbria are all located in the north west of England. The region of Cumbria includes the Lake District, an area well known for spectacular landscapes and views. Both London and Edinburgh are easily reachable by train, while major international airports such as Glasgow, Manchester and Newcastle are all close by.
The teacher-training facility in London is located in Tower Hamlets, home to the Tower of London and fashionable Brick Lane. London offers a varied and exciting culture along with strong transport links to the rest of the country and the world.
My consultant was very helpful and motivating. She helped me every step of the way, even when the deadline was so close. I feel I could not have done it without her. I'd highly recommend this service to any and all of my many friends interested.
