Leeds Beckett University gained university status in 1992 and traces its roots back to the 1824 Leeds Mechanical Institute. Based across two main campuses in the city, there are currently 25,000 students from over 125 countries currently enrolled, making it one of the largest universities in the UK.
The University places a strong focus on employability after graduation and all courses include at least two weeks of work-related learning per year. Work placements are encouraged and very popular, with nearly half of all students taking a sandwich course. Leed’s stated aims are to have every graduate enterprising, digitally literate and with a global outlook.
Leeds Beckett University has nine teaching fellows and seven prestigious Higher Education Academy (HEA) national teacher fellows. Following the most recent National Student Survey, student satisfaction at the school is 81%. In addition, 93.7% of Leeds Beckett graduates are in work or further study six months after graduating.
Leeds Beckett University provides an English programme for international and EU students. It offers support with Academic English and study skills as well as adaptation to the British university system and general life in Britain, and is available for both undergraduate and postgraduate students. ECIS is divided into month-long short-courses of two hours per week, and includes classes on essay writing, note taking, lectures and general study skills alongside language skills. All students enrolled on the programme can also take part in one-to-one tutorials with a tutor.
A meet and greet service is offered for new international student arrivals at Leeds Bradford airport and Leeds train station.
Leeds Beckett University has over 4,500 bedrooms available across a wide range of accommodation blocks. Students have the option of living either in Headingley or the city centre, no more than five miles from the nearest campus. En suite rooms and studio apartments are available. The accommodation office can also help students who wish to rent private accommodation in and around Leeds.
Leeds Beckett University has campuses in Leeds city centre and the nearby suburb of Headingley and both are well known for being popular student areas. Leeds is recognised as one of the UK’s best university cities and has a student population of over 200,000 and was voted 'Best university destination in the UK' by the Independent. It hosts the annual Leeds Music Festival and features numerous cultural events and venues, as well as transport to the rest of the UK and beyond. London is just two hours away via direct train.
Leeds Bradford and Manchester are the closest airports to Leeds Beckett University, with British Airways offering a connecting service between London and the north for international students.
My consultant was very helpful and motivating. She helped me every step of the way, even when the deadline was so close. I feel I could not have done it without her. I'd highly recommend this service to any and all of my many friends interested.
