The University of Limerick was founded in 1972 and has been voted as Ireland’s “Most Popular University" in the past, consistently enjoying high ratings from its students for the teaching and facilities offered. The University also enjoys one of the highest graduate employment rates in Ireland, and its work placement programme, featuring a network of over 1700 employers, is the largest in the country.
Limerick was ranked as one of the best 150 universities under 50 years old by Times Higher Education. The Springboard Initiative at the University also enables students to take free part-time courses at various graduate and undergraduate levels to fill the existing skill deficits and help jobseekers to gain sustainable future employment.
The Glucksman Library at Limerick contains world class resources to support learning and research activities of students. The many clubs and cafes on campus offer multiple options to relax and enjoy good food.
The Nexus Innovation Centre at the University provides quality services to the start-up community through its Enterprise Programmes and StartUp Mania workshops. The Cooperative Education Programme allows all undergraduates to take upto eight months of relevant work experience. It is the largest placement programme in all of Europe, with more than 1600 participating employers employing almost 75% of UL graduates.
The Olympic standard sports facilities at the University allow students to not only engage in outdoor adventure sports in the picturesque Killaloe, but also enjoy athletics, rugby, tennis, hockey and many more at the University’s outdoor sports complex.
The University of Limerick offers accommodation in beautiful residences for up to 2600 students. Six of the seven residential villages are on campus, including Plassey village, Kilmurry village, Thomond village, Dromroe village, Quigley residence and Cappavilla village. Fees vary from €4233 to €8415 yearly depending on the choice of room.
Off-campus accommodation at Troy village is a 15 minute walk from the main university campus and provides various maintenance and in-house inventory services. Residence rental fees includes facilities such as a swimming pool, sports gym, internet and regular security patrols. Regular health and safety risk assessments are conducted by the Village Management Team.
The 148 hectare university campus situated on the banks of River Shannon and surrounded by extensive parkland estates. It is one of the most picturesque campuses in Europe and the campus is ideally located for students to enjoy an active sporting and cultural life. Relaxing cycling and walking tours along the banks of river Shannon and the spectacular Living Bridge provide an opportunity to unwind in natural habitat, while a Farmers’ Market organised every tuesday lets students witness an array of local produce.
The University is situated just 5km from the city of Limerick and 20 km from Shannon airport. Limerick is a modern city with a population of 90,000 and is easily accessible by train, bus and taxi.
