Since being officially granted university status in 2001, there are few UK universities which have climbed the rankings faster than the University of Lincoln. Based in an historic midlands city, there are currently 12,000 students enrolled from over 100 countries.
The University has specialist hubs for the study of Equine Science, Engineering, Art and Media, and was the first university to win a Charter Mark for exceptional student service. All students take the Effective Learning Programme, which is designed to improve study and work skills, while work placements can be used for credit to count towards a degree. The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2015 placed Lincoln among the top 10 modern universities in the UK. In 2017, it scored Gold in the Teaching Excellence Framework.
Lincoln features some of the most striking architecture in Europe due to its medieval history, and all students will graduate in the cathedral and castle grounds on the steep hill. It is also one of the safest cities in the UK.
The University of Lincoln provides a special welcoming service for international students which involves picking up arriving students from the airport and escorting them to their accommodation. The programme also includes acclimatising students to the UK, providing help with language courses, bank and health services and advice about travel or excursions.
Pre-sessional and in-sessional English programmes are available to international students and include courses on academic writing, note taking, critical thinking and conversation skills.
Lincoln continues to impress in relation to other post-1992 universities, and has risen 60 places in major league tables over the last five years. The University is ranked in the top 50 for student satisfaction in The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2015, with a number of courses also ranking in the top 20 nationally including Journalism, Psychology, Drama, English and Sport & Exercise.
The Students’ Union won the title Students' Union of the Year at the National Union of Students (NUS) Awards 2014, while nine out of ten graduates were in work or further study six months after finishing their course.
Following the 2014 Research Excellence Framework, more than half of the research submitted was judged to be internationally excellent or world-leading – the highest scores possible.
Situated on campus and in close walking distance to the city centre, the Student Village provides 17 buildings of self catered single bedroom apartments mostly with en-suite shower and toilet. Each apartment is provided with a shared kitchen and dining area.
The Accommodation Service can also help students who wish to live off campus, either in privately managed halls of residence or private rented accommodation.
Lincoln has several campuses, the main one being Brayford Pool, which is based on a marina in the centre of Lincoln. The University has invested £140 million in developing the facilities and the city centre is just a few minutes’ walk away. Specific campuses exist for the departments of Architecture, Art & Design and Engineering, and all are located either centrally or short ten minute walks from the centre of the city. The recently constructed Engine Shed – home of the student union – is the largest student live music venue in the country.
Lincoln itself is an ancient cathedral city with a population of over 120,000, and attracts many tourists for its range of historic architecture.
My consultant was very helpful and motivating. She helped me every step of the way, even when the deadline was so close. I feel I could not have done it without her. I'd highly recommend this service to any and all of my many friends interested.
