BSc Architecture

Did you know? Six facts you may not know about our BSc (Hons) Architecture

1. Professional accreditation: Our BSc (Hons) Architecture degree is prescribed by the Architects Registration Board (ARB) and validated by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA)

2. Excellent learning community: 91% of Architecture students say they are satisfied with the learning community on their course at Reading (National Student Survey 2019)

3. Dedicated facilities: Architecture students at Reading benefit from individual, dedicated studio space, available seven days a week, plus access to a model-making workshop and a range of advanced digital technologies.

4. Connected with industry: Our course is closely aligned with industry who collaborate in its design and delivery. We have established connections with leading national and international architects, and with the broader construction and property sectors. Our students learn alongside practitioners and start to build their professional network during their studies.

5. Live projects: Our Architecture students have the opportunity to work on live projects as part of their degree, exploring and extending their ideas alongside industry partners and experienced architects.

6. Scholarships for 2020: As part of the cohort joining the BSc Architecture course in 2020, students have the opportunity to apply for an annual £1,000 scholarship for each of the three years of the undergraduate degree.

BEng/MEng Architectural Engineering

New for 2020, our BEng and MEng Architectural Engineering degrees have been developed to draw on our existing expertise in energy and environmental engineering.

These courses, designed for students with competence in Maths, combine the creativity of architectural and building design with a strong technical overview of energy systems and environmental engineering. We are engaging with the Chartered Institution of Building Service Engineers (CIBSE) and Energy Institute (EI) to work towards accreditation of the courses.

Students will benefit from the interdisciplinary teaching and research within the School of the Built Environment. We’re working together to develop the knowledge needed to realise more sustainable built environments that can contribute positively towards tackling the challenges and complexities of climate change.  

Architectural Engineering students will also benefit from the School’s established links with industry. They will be well-placed to form personal and professional networks during their studies and enter the workforce in a wide range of roles such as energy engineer, building designer, facility manager/engineer, project manager, and construction manager.
