What is PTE Academic?
PTE Academic is a fully computer-based English test created by Pearson for international study.
PTE Academic assesses your English skills in speaking, writing, reading, and listening at an academic level. You take the test in just two hours in a comfortable, friendly test center.
Accepted Worldwide – PTE Academic is recognized by over 3,500 universities and colleges worldwide for study, as well as by the governments Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the UK for work and migration visas.

What’s the PTE Academic format?
- Speaking & Writing: this part will take between 54-67 minutes to complete.
- Reading: this part will take around 30 minutes to complete.
- Listening: this part will take approximately 30 minutes.
How is PTE Academic scored?
You will receive a Score Report and a Skills Profile to help you understand your test score, your language skill level, and where you can improve.
Each PTE Academic test has 20 auto-scored question types. Each one is graded differently. Multiple choice answers are scored as either right or wrong, while scores for more complex question types like essay writing are based on many criteria. Some responses are also reviewed by a human expert before the automated score is finalized.
Each institution chooses how to set its scores. Typically, you will need to achieve the following minimum scores:
- Foundation courses: minimum score of between 36–50
- Undergraduate degrees: minimum score of between 51–60
- Postgraduate degrees: minimum score between of 57–67
How to prepare for PTE Academic?
