The Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, also known as RCSI University of Medical and Health Sciences, is a medical professional university located in central Dublin. It was established in 1784 as Ireland’s first private university for the surgical branch of medicine in the country. Today, it provides a broad range of medical education and incorporates the schools of medicine, physiotherapy, pharmacy and nursing.
RCSI offers quality education through a structure of Schools and Faculties. Some focus more on undergraduate programs, while others focus on postgraduate programs. The lead faculty of RCSI is the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, having five schools, including the School of Medicine, Schools of Pharmacy and Biomolecular Sciences, School of Nursing & Midwifery, School of Physiotherapy and the School of Postgraduate Studies.
There are two other faculty units: the Institute of Leadership and the Centre for Positive Psychology and Health. The other faculties of the institution are the Faculty of Radiologists, the Faculty of Dentistry, the Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery, and the Faculty of Sports and Exercise Medicine. The institution is also the home to various health sciences research collaborations that lead to pioneering breakthroughs in human health.
There are over 4,000 international students pursuing education in the medical fields from over 90 countries at the Dublin campus of RCSI. Around 60% of the population at the university comes from other countries, aside from students who have taken up programs at the International Campuses in Malaysia, Bahrain and Dubai.
RCSI runs an International Citizenship Programme, and it gives other opportunities that develop the students to become global citizens. With state-of-the-art facilities and infrastructure that boast modern training technologies, RCSI gives students the best. Europe’s largest clinical simulation facility is present at the 26 York Street campus of the institution, which helps students master essential skills before working on real patients.
The Royal College of Surgeons has plenty of housing options for incoming students. On-campus housing is available through Mercer Court and New Mill options, both located in Dublin. At Mercer Court, students can stay 2 minute walk away from the main university. The residence has 24/7 security, wireless internet, fully equipped kitchens, laundry facilities, a games room, en-suite bathrooms and TVs in communal areas.
The New Mill residence is 15 minutes from St. Stephen’s Green campus and allows en-suite single rooms in a shared apartment. Besides the on-campus housing, RCSI also helps students find off-campus residences, including shared apartments or independent homes.
The main campuses of RCSI are located on York Street and St. Stephen’s Green in central Dublin. This campus incorporates the schools of medicine, physiotherapy, pharmacy and nursing. The city campus exudes diversity through a vibrant intercultural environment for the students.
