£4,000 scholarships for international students studying with us in September 2025, and awards of up to £5,000 for students from India.
Eligibility criteria
To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:
You must apply for and receive an offer to study a taught Masters degree at the University of Birmingham (UK campus) for the 2025/26 academic year.
You must be domiciled in one of the selected countries listed below.
You must be classified as an overseas fee payer for tuition purposes by the University.
You must start your studies in September or October 2025 on a full-time programme delivered at the University’s UK campus.
MSc programmes at Birmingham Business School are eligible for the 125th Anniversary Scholarships. However, additional details, including specific requirements and criteria for scholarships related to Business School programmes, will be announced shortly. We encourage applicants to stay updated on our website for the latest information.
To be considered for our 125th Anniversary Scholarship worth up to £5,000, which is exclusively for students domiciled in India, eligible students must submit a separate application for the India Chancellor’s Scholarship. This will open soon, so please check our website regularly for updates. Winners will be selected based on academic merit from the shortlist generated through the India Chancellor’s Scholarship applications.
Students in receipt of a full tuition fee scholarship from an external organisation are not eligible. If the University becomes aware that a student is fully sponsored by a third-party organisation (i.e., an organisation is providing a scholarship covering 100% of tuition fees), the student will be disqualified from receiving the 125th Anniversary Scholarship. If the scholarship has already been awarded, it will be withdrawn. Please ensure you accurately declare your funding source during enrolment.
Are there any exclusions or programmes not eligible?
If you defer your start date to September 2026, you will no longer be eligible, as the scholarship is only available for September 2025 entry.
Programmes delivered exclusively through distance learning are not eligible.
MBA programmes are not eligible.
Other postgraduate programmes such as PhD, MPhil, MRes, MMus, and MLit, as well as PGDip and PGCert programmes, are not eligible.
Undergraduate programmes, including MBChB, MEng, MSci, and MPharm, are not eligible.
Students studying at the University of Birmingham Dubai campus are not eligible.
The Chancellor's Academic Merit Scholarship is based on predicted grades. The scholarship will apply to all years of study including our student exchange year in the UK, unless your final and/or Masters year of study is in the UK; BSc Biomedical Science, MSci Biomedical Science, MEng Mechanical Engineering, MEng Computer Science and Software Engineering.
For our postgraduate programmes, the Chancellor's Academic Merit Scholarship will be based on your Bachelor (or equivalent) grades. The scholarship is applied to the full tuition fee of the programme regardless of whether it is full-time or part-time. Unless you apply for the MSc Mental Health programme where it will be applicable to Year 1 only.
This is stand alone and cannot be combined.

The College of Arts and Law is offering scholarships for select international students across all of our undergraduate programmes.
As part of our work to make the College of Arts and Law more accessible to students from all backgrounds, we are thrilled to be able to award 10 scholarships in the form of £3,000 for year one entry only towards your tuition fee payments for students applying for entry to an undergraduate programme starting September 2025. Programmes must fall within one of the following schools:
English, Drama and Creative Studies
History and Cultures
Language, Cultures, Art History and Music
Liberal Arts and Sciences
Philosophy, Theology and Religion
The scholarships will be awarded to the highest performing students starting their University of Birmingham programme in the 2025/26 academic year.
To be eligible for the LLB and LLB for Graduates Scholarships you must be:
An International applicant
Be classed by the University as an overseas fee payer for tuition fee purposes and be able to pay the outstanding tuition fees not covered by the scholarship.
Not already registered on a programme at the University of Birmingham
Applicants must not currently be enrolled on a programme at Birmingham.
Self-funded
You must be self-funded and have sufficient funds to cover the full cost of living at the University of Birmingham, plus any visa/travel expenses associated with studying in the UK.
In receipt of an offer
You must have applied through UCAS, received an offer and selected the University of Birmingham as your firm choice for a full-time undergraduate law programme starting September 2025. You must be entering the first year of an undergraduate programme based at Birmingham’s UK campus.
The deadline to submit this form is 30 April 2025 (23:59 UK time) in order to be considered for this award.
Tailored for individuals who showcase exceptional potential in driving positive change and innovation, this prestigious scholarship covers up to £15,000 in the form of a tuition-fee discount for Birmingham MBA full-time students joining the September 2025 cohort. There are only a small number of Purposeful Leader MBA Scholarships available. These are awarded on an ongoing basis so applying early is recommended.
Responsible Business MBA Scholarship
Awarded to talented individuals who are committed to continuously building their skills and knowledge for a better world, this scholarship supports curious thinkers from different backgrounds, cultures and nationalities. The Poynting Achievement Scholarship cannot be held in the same year in conjunction with Poynting Excellence Scholarship, which would take priority over this award.
To renew this award in a subsequent year of study you must:
Hold Poynting Achievement Scholarship or Poynting Excellence Scholarship in the previous academic year.
Achieve 70% year average at the first attempt in your previous year of study.
Renewal will pause for years spent in international study or intercalated study and will restart during your return to study at in School of Physics and Astronomy at Birmingham based on the performance from the year before your year out.
The Poynting Excellence Scholarship, for international undergraduate physics students, enables you to be recognised and rewarded for your excellent academic achievements before arriving as a student at the University of Birmingham.
The Poynting Excellence Scholarship consists of £3000 fee waiver during year 1 for all students who meet the criteria below. Holders of this award become eligible for the Poynting Achievement Scholarship renewal after year 1.
No application is required, all those who meet the conditions above will be contacted during semester 1.
