Ellesmere

Overview

Set in 60 hectares of its own land in beautiful countryside Ellesmere has fantastic facilities for boarding, sports and the Arts.

Boarding benefits from regular refurbishment and there have been major new buildings for boarding in the last two years. Rooms sleep 2 (or occasionally) 1 in the Sixth Form, with younger students usually in rooms of 4, 3 or 2.

The Sports Hall was built 5 years ago, and is large enough for full-size tennis and basketball games. There is a 9-hole golf course, two squash courts and a gym and fitness centre. An indoor 25m swimming pool was opened three years ago, and there are six all-weather tennis courts. The College owns shooting ranges, and the school sailing club is 1km away. An all-weather hockey pitch was constructed this year.

There is a purpose-built Arts and Design centre; Music boasts a large number of practice rooms, 2 pipe organs of national importance (organ scholarships are available), and a recording studio. There is a 200-seat theatre and film-making is a popular activity.

Ellesmere pupils go on to an exceptionally wide range of universities in the UK and world-wide and follow varied courses. Careers advice is strong and is focused on the individual students. Virtually all students who follow A level and IB courses go on to university.

Ellesmere provides an outstanding all-round education, for a wide range of abilities.

Academic education is excellent and in addition to the normal GCSE/A level provision the College offers the International Baccalaureate Diploma and a one-year Pre-Sixth Form course. The Pre-Sixth course has two levels depending upon the standard of English of the student.

In addition to the academic programmes the College is a national leader in elite training for the sports of tennis, swimming, rugby and shooting. The Arena Arts programme offers exceptional opportunities for students to excel in Art, Music and Drama.
