Lomond
School is one of Scotland’s most modern and progressive independent schools.
Situated in Helensburgh on the banks of the Clyde and on the edge of the Loch
Lomond National Park, it was founded in 1977. Helensburgh has excellent rail
links with Glasgow and is only 35 minutes from Glasgow airport.
Facilities at the school are first class with a modern main school building
opened in 1997. A feature of the school has been its’ extensive investment in
ICT and other facilities to enhance the learning environment. Within the last
few months a superb new art room was opened and in 2005 a new international
size Astroturf hockey pitch was developed. The school recently opened a £3.5
million Games Hall.
Further development has featured on boarding with Scotland’s first
coeducational boarding house opening its’ doors in 2003. Boys and girls are
housed on separate floors with a communal ground floor with common rooms and a
variety of social spaces. Having boys and girls on the same site is a positive
feature that has attracted many families who are pleased that siblings can
share the experience of boarding school whilst living in the same building
Unique Points
Lomond
is a very special school due in great part to its medium size. It is an
environment where all pupils are known and given plenty of encouragement. The
amount of value that is added is distinctive as every pupil is contributing
fully. Lomond expects its pupils to be fully involved in sport, music, drama,
art, outdoor adventure as well as in the central academic life of the school.
As a result the rate of participation in clubs, societies and teams is very
high. Central to the ethos is a very friendly and warm atmosphere where new
pupils are quickly integrated and staff are very approachable. Boarding pupils
can expect a very caring and stimulating school that will bring the best out of
each individual
