It was opened on 11 May 1923 by J. F. Roxburgh, initially
with 99 schoolboys. It is a member of the Rugby Group and Headmasters' and
Headmistresses' Conference. The school is also a member of the G20 Schools
Group. There are 11 boarding houses: 8 boy houses and 4 girl houses. These
boarding houses are mostly named after members of the family of Duke of
Buckingham and Chandos. Each house has a number or letter assigned to it.
Unique Points
The Second World War saw 270 Old Stoics killed in active service. There were also 242 decorations.
Entry Requirements
Entry to Stowe at 13+ is conditional on your child achieving at Common
Entrance an average of 55% across all subjects with a minimum of 50% at
level 2 in the core subjects of Maths, English and Science, or in our
own Stowe Entry Papers. We will also request a satisfactory reference
from your child's present school. Sixth Form entrants need to achieve a
minimum of six GCSE passes at grade B.
