The Sanctuary Scholarship is available to those who have asylum seeker or refugee status.
At CCCU, we support and advocate for those who have travelled to the UK for safety. We seek to support those wanting to continue their education and are proud to offer the Sanctuary Scholarship to those in need.
What do you get?
You will receive the following:
Tuition fee support: you will be offered a tuition fee waiver until you are awarded status that entitles you to access statutory student support. This does not cover repeat years of study.
Study and travel support: You will receive an annual amount of £1,200, which will assist you with student and travel expenses.
Personal support: You will receive personalised support to help you succeed and overcome barriers during your studies.
Who is this for?
You must be an asylum seeker/a dependant of an asylum seeker or an asylum seeker/a dependant of an asylum seeker who has been granted Discretionary Leave to Remain (DLR) or some other form of temporary status.
You must also:
have firmly accepted an offer of a full-time undergraduate place at Canterbury Christ Church University (please note postgraduate applicants are ineligible).
currently attend a school, college, community, or voluntary group which can provide a reference in support of your application.

Depending on your athletic level, you will receive:
£500 – performance level
£750-£1,500 – elite level.

Who is this for?
Scholars must compete at one of the following levels:
Performance – demonstrates success at a county/regional level.
Elite – demonstrates success at a national level or above.
Application windows for 2025:
Window 1 – Monday 13 Jan – Friday 28 March 2025.
Window 2 – Monday 14 April – Friday 13 June 2025.
Window 3 – Monday 7 July – Friday 5 September 2025.
