The University of Strathclyde is a world-leading technological university in the heart of Glasgow, one of the UK’s largest cities. With more than 30,000 students from over 140 countries, Strathclyde is a vibrant and welcoming place for students from all backgrounds.
For more than 200 years, Strathclyde has been delivering academic excellence through world-class research and teaching, providing students with flexible, innovative learning in preparation for their chosen career path. The university offers over 200 postgraduate programmes, and each of its four faculties—Engineering, Humanities & Social Sciences, Science, and Strathclyde Business School—works closely with business, industry, government, and policymakers, supporting an enviable track record of making technologies and innovation applicable for the benefit of society.
Responding to global challenges, Strathclyde leads national and international research partnerships, working alongside other leading academics and global business partners.
The University is transforming its campus to create a first-class working and learning environment. The £31 million Strathclyde Sport building provides a range of sports and wellbeing facilities for students, staff, and the local community. The £60 million Learning & Teaching building is a collective space for all students and staff and home to the student support services, Strathclyde Doctoral School and the new Strath Union.
The International Student Support Team offers guidance and information to all registered international students, especially those concerned with immigration and personal issues. They act as a point of contact for other support services and arrange arrival and welcome activities for new international students during the main arrival periods.
The International Student Club meets weekly during the academic year and provides an informal forum for students to meet and get to know each other in a relaxed atmosphere. Social events are planned, including day and weekend tours, international food evening events, trips to the theatre and music concerts. Weekly international meetings also provide a great opportunity for students to meet and make valuable contacts and friends.
The Strathclyde Indian Students Society (SISA) is an Indian community within the University. Acting as a social and support network for students, they do everything from celebrating Diwali and Holi on campus to hosting Ceilidh and Bollywood Nights to ensure Indian students don't miss home during festive times and have an amazing experience during their time at Strathclyde.
Pre-sessional and in-sessional English courses are available, and students are entitled to up to four hours per week of free English language tuition and support. Staff are also available to help with other issues such as visas, employment, and accommodation.
In the REF 2021, 57% of Strathclyde's research was rated ‘outstanding’, with 93.2% rated as ‘outstanding’ or ‘very considerable’, compared to the sector average of 87.2%. An overall institutional quality profile above the sector average for ‘world-leading’ and ‘internationally excellent’ research of 89% versus 84% in 2014.
Almost 1,500 students live in the campus village, while a further 400 live in University accommodation within close walking distance of the University. Strathclyde offers halls arranged into flats with a shared kitchen and a dedicated on-site management team. The campus village has an open study area and is close to several shops, restaurants, and bars. A web service is available to connect landlords and students who wish to move off campus after the first year. There are also accommodation options available on campus for postgraduate students.
The University of Strathclyde is located in Glasgow, Scotland, a hugely vibrant and cosmopolitan city featuring a vibrant arts scene, cutting-edge music, and exciting nightlife. It offers over 20 museums and galleries and is home to the Scottish Opera, the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, and the Scottish Royal Ballet. An impressive amount of green space is located in the city centre, with 19th-century landscaped parks and gardens surrounding students who require a balance to the urban pace of life.
Students can also enjoy the highlands and islands, located just outside Glasgow, less than an hour away.
I believe my success is due to the great support provided by SI-UK. I was advised the right IELTS courses to attend and they also helped with my visa application. I really want to share with you my positive experience and I would definitely recommend SI-UK to my friends.
