Scholarships at Waterford Institute of Technology

AIB sponsor a first, second and third prize for the Land Management (Agriculture) students, based on their final year project. Students present to academic staff initially, and based on this a shortlist of students is chosen to present in front of the AIB Agri-team, where a winner and two runners up are chosen. In total, €1,000 in prize money is up for grabs.

Both AIB and WIT advertise and promote the event through traditional and social media, and so the winning student gets super exposure as well as an excellent piece of information to put on their CV.

Eligible Courses

In year three of the level 7 BSc in Agriculture course, students produce a final year project where they present a poster which summarises the work they have done on the project. This is an excellent opportunity for students to articulate their research findings to fellow students and to academic staff.

This will be the third year that Comeragh Vets have sponsored our final year project poster award. The two students who are deemed to have conducted the best research, who produce the best posters and who speak about their projects most knowledgably win the prize. We are very grateful to Chris McGrath and everyone at Comeragh Vets for their ongoing support.

Apart from the monetary prize, the winning students can put this award on their CV which is a great point of differentiation when they are applying for jobs and in their future careers.

The Dairymaster Student Award recognises the achievements of Agricultural Science degree students with the best final year project presentation, and is judged by a panel of experts from Dairymaster, Teagasc and WIT.

In 2016, Dairymaster, whose aim is to help drive excellence in future generations in the agricultural industry, was announced as award sponsor. Dairymaster are a leading dairy equipment manufacturer and an important stakeholder in the agricultural science programme.

The award allows students realise the relevance of their final year projects to a world beyond college as well as helping students make the transition to the workplace following their studies.

Waterford Institute of Technology, the Gaelic Players Association and the Women’s Gaelic Players Association have announced that they will be extending their Graduate Business Scholarship agreement for GPA & WGPA members for another three years.

The partnership has been mutually beneficial to date, with ten members of both associations receiving scholarship awards to facilitate their participation in the exclusive suite of Graduate Business programmes at WIT.

Five annual Scholarships for GPA/WGPA members are available on a number of programmes: MBS Marketing; MBS Management; MBS Human Resource Management; MBS Economics & Finance and the Executive MBA.

Each scholarship is worth €4,000 per annum to the successful applicants and the partnership runs for three years until the academic year 2020/2021.

Eligible Courses

This bursary is for students who intend to travel overseas as part of their work placement module and is open to students from the BSc (Hons) in Agricultural Science and BSc in Agriculture programmes.

Currently, the Agricultural Science Association (ASA) and Glanbia provide sponsorship of €1,000 to students from the BSc in Agriculture programme, while the ASA and Seedtech sponsor students from the BSc (Hons) in Agricultural Science programme. Please note industry sponsors may change each year.

The successful students contribute articles to the Farmers Journal. News items will also feature in the local press from the students' hometown.

The MOY Materials scholarship valued at €1,500 is offered annually to a 3rd or 4th year student of the BSc in Architectural & BIM Technology honours degree programme along with a job placement opportunity.

To celebrate their 40th year MOY Materials, an established waterproofing full system provider for the roofing sector, have launched a bursary to support architectural technologists of the future with three leading colleges in Ireland and a UK bursary programme for online submissions. The programme is worth in excess of €10,000 of investment and promises to create stronger connections for students as they move from their bursary year into final year and work placements.

MOY are delighted to partner with Waterford Institute of Technology and the college’s 3rd and 4th year students of architectural technology. In announcing details of the bursary Máire Henry (Head of Department of Architecture) from WIT said “On behalf of our students we welcome this generous scholarship from MOY Materials who are a successful and forward thinking Irish company”.

MOY are leading the way in supporting architectural technologists of the future and understand the importance of nurturing young talent. “The MOY bursary is our way to celebrate blossoming talent and help alleviate some of the acknowledged financial hardship students experience towards achieving their goal. Alongside this will also be onsite training in specialised roofing systems with us at MOY and a selected roofing contractor. Eligible Courses

The Society of Irish Foresters is the professional body for foresters in Ireland. They award the Augustine Henry Memorial medal each year to the student that has produced outstanding work in the final year of the Bachelor of Science in Forestry. In addition to the memorial medal, the Society sponsor the winning student to participate on their annual international study tour. Recent student winners joined the Society in visits to France, Austria and Poland.

Augustine Henry is known as the father of Irish Forestry due to his involvement in setting up the state Forest Service and his position as Professor of Forestry in UCD.

How to apply

Students don't need to apply for the award. The award is given to the student who successfully achieves the highest average marks in the final year of the Bachelor of Science in Forestry.

2019 awardee

This year, the award was presented by Dr. Ken Bucke, President of the Society of Irish Foresters, to Ronan O’Keeffe who will join the Society tour to Bosnia-Herzegovina this September.
