Scholarships at Ulster University

Open to new international (excluding UK & RoI) entrants on the first year of a relevant course, commencing September 2025.

The Creative Industries and Communication Scholarship is open to all new international (excluding UK & RoI) entrants on the first year of one of the below-listed courses delivered on our Belfast campus, commencing September 2025.

• MA Film and TV Production

• MA User Experience and Service Design

• MSc Communication and Public  Relations

Value

£2,200 scholarship applied as discount to your tuition fee.  In addition to the  £2,000 international postgraduate scholarship.

Eligibility Criteria

• You must be classified as an international (excluding UK & RoI), self-funding student paying the international tuition fee rate to qualify for this award.

• You must also hold an offer for one of the above-listed programmes.

• The full-time, postgraduate programme must be delivered on our Belfast campus, commencing in September 2025.

• You must meet any academic and/or English language conditions as stated in your offer letter.

• Students applying to part-time or eLearning programmes, or to programmes delivered at our branch campuses (London Birmingham or Manchester) are not eligible for this award.

Open to all new international (excluding UK and RoI) entrants on the first year of a full-time postgraduate course delivered on one of our Northern Ireland campuses, commencing January or September 2025.

Value

£2,000 scholarship applied as a discount to your tuition fee.

• You must be classified as an international, self-funding student paying the international tuition fee rate to qualify for this award.

• You must also hold an offer for a full-time, postgraduate programme delivered on one of our campuses in Northern Ireland (Belfast, Coleraine or Derry~Londonderry), commencing in January or September 2025 and meet any academic and/or English language conditions as stated in your offer letter.

• Students applying to part-time or eLearning programmes, or to programmes delivered at our branch campuses (London Birmingham or Manchester) are not eligible for this award.

• Please note you are only eligible for one discount or scholarship.

£2,000 scholarship applied as discount to your annual tuition fee.

Eligibility Criteria

• You must be classified as an international, self-funding student paying the international tuition fee rate to qualify for this award.

• You must also hold an offer for a full-time undergraduate programme delivered on one of our campuses in Northern Ireland (Belfast, Coleraine or Derry~Londonderry), commencing in September 2025 and meet any academic and/or English language conditions as stated in your offer letter.

• Students applying to our MBBS, part-time or eLearning programmes, or to programmes delivered at our branch campuses (London, Birmingham or Manchester) are not eligible for this award.

• Please note, this scholarship is not applied on a placement year.

• Please also note, you are only eligible for one discount or scholarship.

This special scholarship is named in honour of AFL-CIO President Emeritus John J. Sweeney, the son of Irish immigrants, who dedicated his life to advancing the well-being of working people, making outstanding contributions to working people both in the US and internationally which will live on for years to come.

Value

The John J Sweeney Scholarship has a value of $20,000 and that is used towards the Scholar’s tuition fees for an MSc or LLM at Ulster University.

This scholarship is generously supported by funds raised by the AFL-CIO, the American Labor community, business and civic organisations, and individuals.

*Any balance remaining may be used to purchase study materials/equipment, support course-related activities and/or in support of the Scholar’s living expenses and travel costs.

Eligibility Criteria

The John J Sweeney Scholarship supports US students enrolled to study full-time on the following MSc or LLM at Ulster University:

• MSc Peace and Conflict Studies

• MSc Social Policy

• LLM Human Rights Law and Transitional Justice

• LLM Gender, Conflict and Human Rights

• LLM Access to Justice

• MSc Construction Management

• MSc Management and Corporate Governance

• MSc Manufacturing Management

• MSc Business Development and Innovation

The Scholarship will be open to all US citizens who:

• Have been offered a full-time place on one of the above MSc or LLM and have made a firm commitment to Ulster University during the admissions phase;

• Are a US union member; or;

• Have a familial connection to a US union member (mother, father, sibling, aunt, uncle, grandparent); or;

• Can provide a reference letter from a union sponsor.

September 2025 applications now open. Deadline for submission is 30 April 2025.

The Study Abroad Scholarship is open to all international students who have previously studied at Ulster University as an exchange or study abroad student, and who wish to continue their studies on one of our Masters programmes.

10% international tuition fee discount.
