Culford School

Overview

Culford is a co-educational boarding and day school for 680 children, aged 3 to 18, and is situated close to the pretty market town of Bury St Edmunds in Suffolk. There are effectively three schools (Senior, Prep and Pre Prep) located on the beautiful 480 acre parkland site with a magnificent 18th century mansion, Culford Hall, at its heart. The school is just 40 minutes from Cambridge and Stansted airport and only 90 minutes from London.

Culford has invested £2million in refurbishing its boarding houses and offers a comprehensive after school and weekend activities programme to ensure that pupils have fun and enjoy living in the place that they also work. Other recent new developments at the school include three new ICT suites; a multi-media language suite; an indoor climbing wall, Studio Theatre and refurbished Music School. A four-court Indoor Tennis Centre offers specialist Lawn Tennis Association coaching to national standards.

The Good Schools Guide (2008) says about Culford, “Pupils and parents alike rate the school highly and one has the feeling of a quietly self-confident, happy establishment” and goes on to describe it as “A well rounded, thoroughly reliable school, in a wonderful setting, which deserves to be better known.”
