near the picturesque riverside village of Colinton, 6km SW of central
Edinburgh, in 100 acres of beautiful, part-wooded grounds near the Pentland
Hills. Easily accessible by road, rail and air links; located close to
Edinburgh city by-pass and only 20 minutes from Edinburgh International
Airport.
Merchiston offers a broad curriculum, encompassing Arts & Humanities as
well as Maths, Science & Technology, in which the school is particularly
strong. The School follows GCSE/ AS & A level curriculums with high success
rate in examinations (typically 98-100% pass rate per annum). In 2011, 91% of
leaving pupils secured places at their 1st or 2nd choice of University.
Excellent boarding faciltities: comfortable shared dormitories up to Year 10;
single rooms in Year 11; single rooms with private bathroom in Sixth Form.
Co-curricular activites are wide ranging and facilities excellent : Music,
Drama, Outdoor Pursuits (inc Duke of Edinburgh Award); Sport inc. rugby,

Assessment using School's own papers plus receipt of satisfactory report from current school. * Years 4-9: Maths and English only + report * Year 10: Maths, English and Science + report * Year 12: Level B2+ or C1 minimum requirement for Sixth Form entry. (ESOL between 5 and 6). Other papers according to subject choices made for Sixth Form study but at approximately GCSE level + school report.
