A new academic year begins this September, and many students plan to study in the UK for the first time.
If you have changed your heart about what subject you wish to study, or where you wish to do it, UCAS Extra allows you to make another choice. UCAS Extra is for students who have already selected their five choices but have not received any offers, or have changed their minds about which courses and institutions they wish to apply to. In 2024, UCAS Extra is open between 28th February and 4th July.
SI-UK London can help maximise your chances of securing an offer from a UK university through UCAS Extra. Arrange a free consultation today online or in person with our London office to get started and search over 65,000 courses in our database.
What is UCAS Extra?
UCAS Extra allows you to apply for an extra university course, even if you had already submitted your five choices by the previous deadline. It opens each February and runs until July, and if you are eligible to use the UCAS Extra system, UCAS will send you the relevant details through.
You can use UCAS Extra if you have not been made any offers if you've changed your mind, or if you’ve declined them all.
Am I eligible for UCAS Extra?
You can find out if you can use UCAS Extra by logging in to your UCAS account and going to 'Track'.
- Under the ‘Your choices’ section you’ll see ‘Add an Extra choice’, which will appear as soon as you become eligible to use UCAS Extra
- If this doesn’t appear on your page it may be because you haven't met the eligibility criteria listed above. If this is the case, check back through your choices or speak to an SI-UK consultant who can help
How many courses can I choose?
You can only select one extra course at a time. Once you have done this, you then have three possible outcomes:
- You receive an offer and decide to accept it
- You receive an offer, but decide not to accept it and begin the Extra process again
- You do not receive an offer and begin the Extra process again
What happens after the July deadline?
If you do not receive any further offers, or have not accepted any offers by the July deadline, you will be eligible to enter UCAS Clearing.
