University College London (UCL) has emerged as the highest-ranking UK institution in the QS World University Rankings: Sustainability 2025, sharing 5th place globally.
With an impressive overall score of 98.6, UCL excelled particularly in the categories of environmental research and social impact, achieving a perfect score in "knowledge exchange." This measure reflects the university’s success in fostering partnerships that drive educational growth and create positive global impacts.
Dr Michael Spence, President of UCL, expressed pride in the institution’s achievements, noting, “Our dedication to environmental sustainability and innovative health programmes continues to drive significant local and global impact. However, we remain committed to pushing boundaries and fostering a sustainable future for all.”
Other UK institutions performed strongly, reflecting the nation’s commitment to sustainability in higher education. Imperial College London and the University of Edinburgh tied for 7th place globally, each earning a score of 98.4 and excelling in "environmental education." The University of Manchester secured a joint 9th position with a score just 0.1 below, reinforcing the UK’s presence in the top 10.
