2025 Guardian University Guide rankings revealed

The University of Oxford has reclaimed the top spot in the 2025 edition of the Guardian University Guide.

It is the first time since 2022 that Oxford has finished top of the ranking, narrowly seeing off the University of St Andrews who slipped to second after being ranked first for the last two years. For 2025, the top 10 (see below) remained the same as 2024.

The Guardian University Guide ranks universities based on eight different criteria to calculate an overall score out of 100. These factors include student feedback on teaching, staff engagement, and the 'value-added' score, which compares students' A-level grades with their academic performance, along with the likelihood of students continuing their courses and securing graduate employment after graduation.
