The latest 2021 Global Fintech Rankings, published by findexable, have revealed multiple UK cities are home to emerging hubs, fintech companies and trends.
Over 50 new cities and 20 new countries joined the index for the first time, including Birmingham, Cardiff and Newcastle, but it was London and Manchester who again led the way, with both cities being home to the headquarters of ‘unicorn’ companies, privately held start-ups with valuations over $1bn (£714.4m).
Simon Hardie, founder and chief executive of Findexable, said: “The UK continues to be a major player in fintech, but unlike the larger finance sector it is moving away from being largely London-based.”
The country and city rankings were calculated from a total score comprising a combination of three metrics, including Quantity (size of fintech ecosystem and supporting structures), Quality (impact/performance) and Environment (ease of doing business, critical mass, regulatory environment).
