09 October 2024

Times Higher Education has named the University of Oxford as the world's best university for a record-breaking 9th consecutive year.

The THE World University Ranking are generated from five “pillars”: teaching, research environment, research quality, industry and international outlook. For 2025, 2,092 universities have been ranked from 115 countries. In total, the UK has 25 universities in the top 200 spots on the list, the same as last year, with 13 institutions improving their ranking in the past 12 months.

Professor Irene Tracey, Vice-Chancellor, University of Oxford, said: "I am absolutely delighted that we have consolidated our position at the top of the Times Higher Education World University Rankings for a ninth consecutive year.

"This achievement is testament to our extraordinarily talented and committed academics, researchers and staff, who deliver exceptional standards of teaching and learning and conduct globally impactful research."
