London named best student city for sixth year in a row

QS has named London the world's best student city in the 2025 Best Student Cities Ranking.

It is the sixth year in a row London has finished top of the ranking, seeing off competition from annual challengers Tokyo,  Munich, Seoul and Melbourne. Edinburgh, a popular study destination in Scotland, finished 13th overall.

The QS Best Student Cities is based on six indicators: the ranking of a city’s universities, student mix, desirability, employer activity, affordability and student views. Key highlights for London included huge scores in the diversity of its student mix, students’ feedback on their overall experience in London and the number of world-class universities in the city.

Dr Diana Beech, Chief Executive Officer of London Higher – which represents 50 universities and higher education institutions in the capital – said: “For London to retain the title of world’s best student city for six uninterrupted editions shows just how the UK capital and its world-leading universities keep on delivering an exceptional experience for students from across the globe."
